The Adonthell meeting is back and this time it's bigger and better than
before!
5 high-ranking Adonthell delegates from around Europe (Alex, Kai, Joel,
Ben and myself) met up last summer to discuss the future of Adonthell.

Last year we met up in Germany, this
year it was France's turn. We stayed in non other than the world-famous
metropolis that is Bavinchove! (ok, maybe I'm exaggerating a wee bit there
:P) Once again we had fantastic weather which was good becasue we could
work on our tans that had faded a little since last year's meeting! We
were all fortunate enough to be able to stay at Alex's place and we were
more than fortunate to be able to eat the food his mum cooked. All I can
say is: Encooooooooooore!

Right, back to the actual meeting. We played loads of Super Mario Kart
on the SNES and some SNK v. Capcom on the NeoGeo Pocket (no SGI machines
to play XBlast this time :P), we then ate some more and then we took the
dogs out for walk in the evenings. Was there something else? Ummm ... oh
yeah! We talked about Adonthell too!
We talked looooooads about Adonthell actually.
We discussed improvements for 0.3 and ideas for future releases.
If you think 0.3 is good just wait 'till 0.4 comes out (preliminary
release date second quarter 3002!). The resolution is set to double to
640x480 so that we can have more detailed characters and maps. The
characters will no longer move square-by-square but rather pixel-by-pixel.
This increased freedom of movement will allow actions such as running,
jumping and sliding! We really scared Alex, who mainly does the mapengine,
with this flood of new ideas/wishes. But the next morning he would always
come to us though and say: "I spoke to Joel about it last night
and thought about it a little. I think it should be possible."
There were lots of other ideas too but I don't want to reveal too much
just yet ...
Further highlights of the meeting were going out
to Lille, watching the Final Fantasy movie (we're gonna have better gfx
than that! :P) and seeing Ben play Adonthell and see his graphics in
action for the first time. The poor guy is stuck with window~1 at the
moment! (Everyone say awwww!)
All in all we had lots of fun and definitely
want to organise another meeting in 2002!
Who knows, maybe we'll see you there too!
