If you would like to help with development without becoming too entangled
with Adonthell then read on. Below are examples of things to do, but the list is
far from being complete. If you are unsure whether your work will be useful
simply drop a mail to the respective mailing
list or to adonthell-project at linuxgames.com.
You
should do the same before sending large (i.e. > 500K) attachments.
Please use open formats for you submissions. Graphics should be
in png or tiff format (jpeg if no lossless compression is required).
Writing should be ASCII text (HTML or PDF if you want special formatting).
Where this makes sense, you may compress things with tgz, gzip, bzip2 or zip.
- Binary Packages / Ports
We try to make Adonthell as portable as possible. With a little
effort it should compile under different UNIX flavours and, with the right
compiler, possibly under Win32 as well. If you give it a try and succeed,
we're happy to add these packages (or links to them) to our site.
- Patches
Not much to say here. If you made improvements to the code, please send them to
the adonthell-devel
mailing list. Unless the changes are very small, please send them as diff to
the recent CVS code, either by using the diff command
(diff -Naur <old> <new>) or a tool like
makepatch.
- Translations
Recent releases of Adonthell come with national language support (NLS). So if you want to see our games speaking your language, you could provide the necessary translation. We use GNU gettext to provide the different locales, so you might want to have a look at that first. But no worries, we can help you with all technical issues if you want.
- Artwork
Artwork is needed everywhere, as it does a lot to model Adonthellīs
background. If you would like to see your sketches or paintings in the Art Gallery or a hypothetic user's
manual, send them to the adonthell-artwork list. They even
might make it into the final game!
- In-game Graphics
Creating all the graphics for the game is a large amount of work, and any help
we get is welcome. Playing the demo should give you an
impression of what graphics are needed. Unfortunately making these graphics
isnīt that easy, since there are a lot of guidelines and rules to be followed.
Check these out in the Designer's documentation, you get the hang
of it pretty quickly. Remember that we always need ingame graphics, and anything
you do that fits in will also be featured in the game! Submit your work to the
adonthell-artwork mailing
list.
- Writing
We're not only making a role playing game, we are also trying to create a whole
world around Adonthell. The first fruits of this plan are available in the
library, and others made it into the
demo. If that inspired
some Adonthell related writing of your own, send it to Kai for inclusion in the library.
We are also happy to recieve ideas and suggestions for the plot and subquests.
